Holiday Stack Cakes : Stoney Clover Lane

These festive cakes are so fun to make and so pretty to look at!

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of classic white cake mix
  • Vanilla icing
  • Food coloring
  • Assorted sprinkles/decorations
  • Vegetable oil
  • Eggs

Directions:

  1. To make the batter, follow directions on the cake mix box
  2. Separate the batter into three bowls, with 1/2 in one bowl and a 1/4 each in the other two
  3. Add red and green food coloring to the bowls with 1/4 batter, blue to the other with 1/2, and mix
  4. Fill cupcake trays with about the same number of blue versus red and green combined , until about 2/3 full
  5. Bake for 18-21 minutes
  6. Let the cupcakes cool
  7. Trim the cupcakes so they are all about the same shape and width (tip: use a cookie cutter)
  8. Frost one layer of cake with vanilla icing, add another cake on top, and repeat
  9. Decorate!

Winter vacation prep has begun. I quickly hit ‘yes’ on iTunes in response to “Do you want to rent ‘Love Actually’? You have already rented this item. Are you sure you want to rent it again?” just as I do every December. At this point I should probably just click ‘purchase,’ but there’s something about watching prime minister Hugh Grant’s dance number around the holidays. DIY Menorah : Stoney Clover Lane

Happy Hanukkah to everyone celebrating! In the spirit of the holiday we decided to make two of our very own menorahs , and we can’t wait to light them. Check out how we made them below. LUCK + LOVE

 

Animal Menorah

DIY Menorahs : Stoney Clover Lane

What you need:

Instructions:

  1. Spray paint the plastic toy animals with your color of choice, and let them dry
  2. Place the painted animals on your base in the order you prefer, then glue them down
  3. Glue a hex nut (to hold the candles) to the top of each animal
  4. Place candles in hex nuts and light!

 

Hello Kitty Menorah

DIY Menorahs : Stoney Clover Lane

What you need:

Instructions:

  1. Remove the top and string from each bubble container, empty the bubbles, and rinse with water
  2. Spray paint the plastic hello kitty containers with your color of choice, and let them dry
  3. Take two hello kitty containers, and glue them together for the shamash candle
  4. Glue a hex nut to the top opening of each hello kitty container
  5. Secure each container onto the wood base with glue
  6. Add candles and light!
